First, let me say, this IS a good value if you do the math correctly. More on that in a moment.
My family was Charmin-loyal for, literally, as far back as I can recall, and that choice followed me into adulthood. Then, a few years ago, Charmin reduced the size of their sheets from 4.5" x 4.5" to 3.92" x 4.0" without a proportionate adjustment in price. (Like no one was going to notice they could, now, shuttle the roll back and forth on the holder? Come on, P&G!) For whatever reason, I took this very personally and set out in search of a replacement.
While, I admit, I'm still salty about P&G's not-so-stealthy move (hence the 4-star rating), I realized I needed to let go of the past and compare the products currently available.
The result? Charmin FTW. This precious commodity shows up on my doorstep within 48 hours of my call and it's STILL a better bargain than picking it up in-store!
One reviewer says it isn't a good value because they purchased 402 sq. ft. for $14.99, making this product more than 3 times the price per square foot. That is incorrect.
Each 4-roll pack of the product pictured contains 143 sq. ft. of toilet paper. The item you purchase for $26.65 (as of today, 6/6/16) contains SIX, 4-roll packs. That's 858 sq. ft.
$26.65 ÷ 858 ft² = $0.03106/ft²
$14.99 ÷ 402 ft² = $0.03728/ft²
I broke down the prices of this product and the other leading brand to compare the per-unit costs. I looked at Amazon, 2 major/chain grocers, and a popular big-box store. Amazon had the best prices for both products. Per unit, the Charmin was more expensive, but only by a negligible amount, so we went back to the better product: Charmin!!
I have always loved Charmin but this product is a disappointment. It appears that "sensitive" means cheap. I find the paper so flimsy that much more is used than other Charmin products. I'll give the rest of my order away and order the more traditional Charmin.
I had become furious over the games the TP industry plays. The rolls got smaller and smaller and the price kept going up. We went through a roll every other day! The annoyance factor alone was enough to make me crazy. The final straw came when the local store that we'd bought the Charmin 'Huge' rolls suddenly had only mega paks of the 'large' rolls (meaning miniscule). So I was impressed when I found this with far more sheets.
Check the specs on the label of this. The rolls are fatter with more 'sheets' but I never dreamed it would be a more narrow roll - by about 3/4 - 1". It looks stupid on the toilet paper holder.
I guess there's no way to get around the screwing of American when it comes to products from Proctor and Gamble. A little truth would go a long way with these people. Why not dvertise saying "Yah, we know it's less product and more expensive but it's all there is"
Edit: 6/26/14 I've given up on Charmin Sensitive after using it for almost 20 years. It's become worthless - or at least what I get here on Amazon is worthless. Not only is there the size issued mentioned above, the layers peal apart and make a mess. It's just not the product it once was.
